Formed on Nov. 3, 1925, the Ironwood club wasn't too far behind the first Kiwanis Club in the nation, which was organized in Detroit in 1915. The November unemployment rate rose in all but one county, Gogebic, in the western Upper Peninsula. The Gogebic County rate fell just a tick, from 6.2 percent in October to 6.1 percent in November. According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, both the civilian labor force and total employment rose by 50 in November. Total unemployment remained at 400. HURLEY, Wis. - Carol "Becci" English, 77, died peacefully on Dec. 28, 2015, after battling cancer for three and one-half years. She was surrounded by devoted family and friends during this challenging time, including through her final days. Keith Carlson, 81, of Ironwood Township, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, 2015, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, with his family by his side. Keith was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Ironwood, son of the late Walter and Elsie (Peterson) Carlson, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer.
