The former Margaret Tarro was born May 6, 1925, in Montreal, daughter of the late Battista and Maria (Picholdi) Tarro, attended grade school there, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley in 1943. She worked in Detroit and Milwaukee during World War II, and was employed as a bookkeeper/cashier for the Lake Superior District Power Co. in Ironwood, Mich., from 1947 until her retirement in 1988. She was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Kimball, Wis., daughter of the late Anton and Maria (Mattila) Maki. She was an Ironwood area resident most of her life. HURLEY - Four people were honored with the Distinguished Alumni and Friends Award given by the Hurley Education Foundation during its 12th annual awards ceremony held Saturday morning in the commons of the Hurley K-12 school. The first recipient was Roger Myren, who was the Hurley district administrator from 1987-97. HURLEY - The Iron County Historical Society and the Iron County Museum has taken recent measures to insure the clock at the old courthouse building keeps ticking. Colin DiGiorgio and Ross Corullo of Hurley beat father-and-son Jim and Jason Hill in a one-hole playoff at Eagle Bluff for their first Hurley Quarterback Club Golf Touranment title. DULUTH, Minn. - William Farnham "Bill" Penrose, 90, of Ironwood, Mich., died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. To the Editor: Recently, my children and I attended an honorable remembrance of the B-47 Crash Site Memorial. At the service, I met some of the family members who came quite a distance to participate. I also felt honored to meet a few of the B-47 Crash Site committee members.
