    Letter to the Editor: I have often wondered over the years why people purposely hurt or kill animals. For example, the moron who drove off U.S. 51 onto the shoulder by the Gile Flowage to drive through and kill a family of geese. Those same two geese have been coming to the location for years. Now they are all dead, but one. Or like the individual who ran over and killed our family cat on Stateline Road in Kimball. Would it have been so difficult to drive up to the house and say, “I’m sorry, I hit your cat?” Or did you hit it on purpose, just...

According to a legal notice in the Iron County Miner, the property at 1000 Tenth Avenue North was foreclosed in Iron County Circuit Court on Feb. 10.     HURLEY - A 58-year-old former Manitowish Waters, Wis., resident was sentenced to 90 days in the Iron County Jail Tuesday for running over a companion with his vehicle. James Heller, 58, of Duluth, Ga., was sentenced to two years in prison and three years of extended supervision by Iron County Judge Patrick Madden, but the prison sentence was then stayed.     For one year at least, quarters are out in high school basketball games in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association board voted Thursday to change varsity games from four eight-minute quarters to two 18-minute halves for a one-year trial. JV teams will play two 16-minute halves. The move is expected to help deeper teams because games will be four minutes longer.
