RAMSAY - Despite about an hour downpour, the 4th of July festivities in Ramsay went off without a hitch on Saturday night. BESSEMER - In the Bessemer Hometown Run held on Saturday, the top overall male runners were Andy Warren, of Ironwood, in the 10K division and Sam Dean, of Ironwood, in the two mile run. IRONWOOD - Local horse enthusiasts competed in the Spring Valley Ranch Horsemen's Club Horse Show over the weekend. This year marked the fifth annual event, which was held at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds in Ironwood. More than 40 horses were shown in the event on Saturday and Sunday. Competitions included showmanship, English riding, western riding, jumping classes, speed events and reigning classes. WAKEFIELD - Members of the Michigan State Police Dive Team recovered three stolen firearms from Plymouth Mine Lake Sunday. The firearms were recovered, stemming from a joint investigation by the MSP Wakefield Post and the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department. To the Editor: The citizens of Bessemer, Ramsay and Bessemer Township are asked to vote on May 6 for a revised bond allowing the Bessemer Area School District to make necessary upgrades. These upgrades will allow our schools to become more energy efficient, secure and technologically sound. To the Editor: To me, it was a no-brainer in the early 1980s to opt for hitchhiking. My 1970 vehicle was good for only 12 miles to the gallon, highway mileage. Previous bus rides to and from Detroit, with all their stops, had been done to more than my fill.
