WAKEFIELD - The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing $3.9 million to remove and replace the M-28 bridge over Jackson Creek, east of Wakefield. The DOT said the existing bridge, built in 1932, has reached the end of its service life. IRONWOOD — An enthusiastic group of workers came out Saturday morning to work on cleanup and preparation of the Iron Belle Trail for the busy summer season. The project has generated such enthusiasm that a number of participants had done a lot of the work before the scheduled event. HURLEY - A carnival being held to raise money for the Hurley Fire Department had to be shut down Friday evening after a ride malfunctioned, injuring four people. Law enforcement officers at the scene around 7:30 p.m. at the Big Snow Country Inn parking lots said one person had been transported from the scene for treatment of unspecified injuries, which did not appear to be life-threatening.
