    IRONWOOD — The six-year Capital Improvement Plan recently adopted by the Ironwood City Commission includes a $600,000 two-year downtown facade improvement proposal and a separate $50,000 local effort. The plan represents a wish list of projects in the city, many of which are dependent on receiving necessary grants. The federally-assisted facade improvement program would be for fiscal years 2018-’19 and 2019-’20, estimated at $300,000 for each year.     From Saxon Harbor to Duluth, it doesn’t look like a good winter for jigging for trout and salmon through the ice of Lake Superior. Lake Superior was only about 14 percent ice-covered as of Wednesday, according to the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory. It uses temperature-sensing satellite data to estimate ice cover. Unemployment in Gogebic County from November to December rose from 5.3 percent to 6.2 percent during that time. The good news was the labor force available for work rose by 125, from 6,175 to 6,300 in the past two months. Total employment in same time frame, also rose by 50 to 5,900.
