IRONWOOD — A 12:04 a.m. Thursday structure fire at 140 W. Gogebic St. started in a marijuana grow room. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Wednesday sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a federal disaster declaration for nine northern Wisconsin counties affected by July 11-12 torrential rains and flash floods. In the letter, Walker said the storm caused more than $25 million in damage to roads and public infrastructure. IRONWOOD - An early Tuesday morning fire that severely damaged a house at 324 E. Oak St, in Norrie Location sent the homeowner to the hospital. BESSEMER — Pete Matonich won his reelection bid, beating Gordon Koski to continue as Sheriff of Gogebic County during Tuesday’s primary election race. BESSEMER - The Bessemer City Council, Monday evening, adopted an amendment to the city's zoning ordinance to cut down on blight. ONTONAGON — The state of Michigan has awarded Camp Josh a grant under the Upper Peninsula Deer Habitat Improvement Partnership Initiative. Under the partnership agreement, Camp Josh will construct a 3.4-acre food plot on the 40-acre parcel that it owns on the LP Walsh road in Ontonagon Township. The state will fund $4,876 and Camp Josh will fund $3,260 of the $8,136 project cost.
