HURLEY — A Mercer, Wis., man who is charged with human trafficking and false imprisonment is scheduled to be arraigned in Iron County Court on March 31. Jason Sheehan, 29, is accused of forcing a deaf woman with a neurological disorder to eat mold, drink urine and eat cat feces. The alleged victim told authorities Sheehan had hit her with a hot baking ban, threw boiling water on her, and struck her with an electric fly swatter. Employment numbers worsened in all western Upper Peninsula counties in January, according to the Michigan Labor Market Bureau. Gogebic County’s unemployment rate rose from 5.5 percent in December to 6.7 percent in January. The leap came despite 75 more people being employed in January. That was also balanced by 75 more unemployed persons, as well, as 100 more people entered the labor market. Total employment rose to 6,400 and unemployment has reached 450. ERWIN TOWNSHIP — Township residents will soon be able to recycle some of their garbage after the Erwin Township Board of Trustees approved a contract with Eagle Waste Wednesday. The agreement will have township residents receive garbage collection twice a month and recycling collection once a month, according to township supervisor Larry Grimsby.
