Community Development Director Michael Brown said the committee unanimously approved the proposed route and eliminated a portion of the trail that the Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park suggested be removed.     BESSEMER - Heroin use on the Gogebic Range has reached the "epidemic" stage, taking over from meth as the preferred illegal drug of choice, the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners learned Wednesday.     WATERSMEET - The Lac Vieux Desert Tribe hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday to celebrate its new $10 million "state-of-the-art" health center.     BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners Wednesday renewed its sheriff’s department dispatching contract with Iron County, Mich., for five years on a 6-1 vote. County board chair Joe Bonovetz, of Bessemer, cast the only no vote. Bonovetz supported switching Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department dispatching services to Negaunee Regional Dispatch, even though that would have cost the county nearly $100,000 more over the five-year period.     BESSEMER — Local residents expressed their opinion at the Bessemer City Council meeting Tuesday concerning a recent announcement of a medical marijuana producing business to be located at the Big Dollar grocery store.     IRONWOOD — The 3.45 inches of rain that fell for the 24-hour period through 7 a.m. on Labor Day set a Sept. 7 record for Ironwood. The weather station at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant records weather readings by the National Weather Service office in Marquette. It was the most rain received on that day over the past 110 years. The first day of school for students in the Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield-Marenisco and Watersmeet districts is Tuesday.
