    By RICHARD JENKINS [email protected] MERCER - With lights flashing and the horn sounding, a fire truck delivered Santa to the Mercer Community Center Saturday night. The kids gathered at the center ran out to meet Santa before following him inside and forming a line to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.     ONTONAGON — The annual Aspirus Ontonagon Christmas Concert will be held Friday, Dec. 11, at the Ontonagon Theater of the Performing Arts.   • Iron County officials work to develop mass care plan

    HURLEY — Officials from a number of Iron County agencies met Friday at the Iron County Memorial Building to participate in a table-top exercise to develop a mass care plan for the county. The plan would be used in instances where the county needed to open up a temporary shelter, Iron County Health Officer Zona Wick explained, and could cover a range of emergencies including ice storms, tornadoes or fires.     IRONWOOD — Area residents may obtain Christmas tree permits for $5 for the Ottawa National Forest at the Ironwood office or visitor centers before heading out.     HURLEY — Hurley area residents may drop off used winter clothing at the Chamber of Commerce office at 316 Silver St. for a Wisconsin Department of Tourism charity drive.     IRONWOOD — Rain turned to snow on a dreary Thanksgiving Day and when it was over, nearly a half inch of precipitation had fallen on Ironwood. The weather station at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Facility off Cloverland Drive recorded 3.5 inches of snow and .48 inch of precipitation for the 24-hour period to 7 a.m. on Friday.
