The Ironwood stretch, called the Western Gateway trail, was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony near Depot Park in the afternoon, attended by about 50 people. Before Labor Day, physical education teacher Janet Hellman, Lee Schiller and his third-grade daughter, Janet, cleared the pavement of debris, then painted fresh lines. IRONWOOD - New playground equipment at Ironwood's Longyear Park is set on a soft rubber surface that prevents kids' injuries from falls. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday afternoon marked completion of the $60,000 project, with half that amount coming from a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant. The 26.2 mile race around Sunday Lake began in foggy morning conditions that eventually cleared away to a perfect day for running. Located in the David G. Lindquist Student Center, the pool has been closed for repairs until further notice. BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners Wednesday renewed its sheriff’s department dispatching contract with Iron County, Mich., for five years on a 6-1 vote. County board chair Joe Bonovetz, of Bessemer, cast the only no vote.
