    BESSEMER — The Mackinac Center for Public Policy recently presented Bessemer’s Washington Elementary School with an award for outstanding achievement. Superintendent Dave Radovich said Washington School received an “A” rating from the MCPP. Radovich said the rating is based on demographics, student population and social economics.     HURLEY — A Mercer, Wis., man who is charged with human trafficking and false imprisonment is scheduled to be arraigned in Iron County Court on March 31. Jason Sheehan, 29, is accused of forcing a deaf woman with a neurological disorder to eat mold, drink urine and eat cat feces. The alleged victim told authorities Sheehan had hit her with a hot baking ban, threw boiling water on her, and struck her with an electric fly swatter.     Employment numbers worsened in all western Upper Peninsula counties in January, according to the Michigan Labor Market Bureau. Gogebic County’s unemployment rate rose from 5.5 percent in December to 6.7 percent in January. The leap came despite 75 more people being employed in January. That was also balanced by 75 more unemployed persons, as well, as 100 more people entered the labor market. Total employment rose to 6,400 and unemployment has reached 450. A double spring hit when ice left the Ontonagon River and the frost tubes on three highways thawed from the winter cold.
