WAKEFIELD — At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a suicidal male at his Wakefield residence, according to a department news release. Officers on the scene, along with a family member, were able to establish contact with the 30-year-old man, who was in the home with his 3-year-old son. BESSEMER - The sun was out for the sixth annual Go Ride R Range Ride on Saturday. Beginning in Bessemer's Bluff Valley Park, the roughly 50 cyclists who participated biked to Rigoni's Bar and back to the park, according to organizer Jim Mildren, a route of roughly 20 miles. IRONWOOD — The 2015-’16 budget the Ironwood City Commission will consider Monday includes a small increase in city property taxes. According to the proposed budget resolution, property taxes of $1,777,000 are projected, compared to the $1,675,000 approved a year ago, or less than a 1 percent increase. IRON BELT, Wis. - The man who brought the color pink to his Iron Belt construction business, Angelo Luppino, died this week of cancer at 82. He was born and raised in Hurley, graduating from the Hurley High School in 1952. He married Nancy Nelson in 1953 and they had two children, a son, Paul, and a daughter, Karen. Luppino met his wife on a blind date and knew from the moment he met her that she was the one. "He met me and that was it," she said. They had a long and happy marriage of 62 years.... Full story

IRONWOOD — Even though the the Ironwood Area School District won’t be offering a traditional summer school, several teachers will be volunteering to continue offering math and reading lessons for students to try and ensure that the students don’t backslide and lose knowledge over the summer. ONTONAGON – Ontonagon Village Manager Joe Erickson told the Village Council Monday that engineers for a new dollar store in Ontonagon have been on the proposed site for the store and he expects a request will be made next week for a building permit to start the new structure. IRONWOOD—A group met Saturday morning at the Michigan Welcome Center to help clean up the banks alongside the Montreal River. Led by the Forest Service Department, the group met first to discuss safety procedures, protective equipment and the areas that would be cleaned up, which consisted of five zones. Garbage and recycling collection was done just on public land alongside the river and not actually in the water. It shows Wakefield customers pay the lowest sewer-water bills on the Gogebic Range, while Ironwood Township is on the high end.
