    IRONWOOD - Ironwood City Manager Scott Erickson said the city has developed a checklist to be used in the event of flooding. With temperatures in the 50s forecast for the next week, city commissioners had questions Monday about the potential for flooding.   • Commission awards lawn care bid to Harma

    IRONWOOD — A three year-contract for mowing and trimming at the Riverside Cemetery and city parks was awarded Monday by the city commission to Harma’s Lawn and Property Service, of Hurley. The commission agreed to pay Paul Harma $65,520 for the cemetery work and $14,250 for the city parks mowing. City manager Scott Erickson noted Saari Lawn Service, of Montreal, Wis., the only other bidder, was just a few hundred dollars off.   • Bessemer Township adopts several resolutions

    RAMSAY - The Bessemer Township board met Monday to discuss support for several resolutions. The first resolution focused on poverty guidelines and exemptions on property taxes for qualifying individuals and families. "We deal with this every year," said Township Supervisor Jeff Randall. "It allows, as state law requires, those that fit the poverty guidelines can apply for exemption or a portion of exemption from their property taxes."     ONTONAGON — The Ontonagon Village Council Monday heard a report from Manager Joe Erickson reviewing the operations of the Ontonagon Village Housing Commission. The housing commission governs the operation of Cane Court housing units for low income residents. Cane Court is owned by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with by-laws set by both HUD and the commission.   • Science Olympiad teams to head to state tournament

    BESSEMER - This year, Bessemer's high school Science Olympiad team, with 36 total players including alternates, won first place in the Upper Peninsula regional competition at Northern Michigan University in Marquette in February. The junior high team took second place. Both are moving on to the 2015 State Tournament on May 2 at Michigan State University in East Lansing.     ERWIN TOWNSHIP - Roughly 120 children participated in the Lapset Loppet, the final event of the 2015 Sisu Ski Fest, at the ABR Ski Trails on Tuesday.     BESSEMER - The Bessemer City Council heard from Bessemer Chamber of Commerce president Kathy Whitburn about the chamber's plans for the year.     IRONWOOD - It was the Bowl For Kids fundraising event Saturday at Larry's Lucky Strikes for the U.P. Kids Big Brothers Big Sisters program.     KIMBALL, Wis. — It was turkey with all the fixings all Sunday afternoon at the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department’s 33rd annual Turkey Dinner fundraiser.     KIMBALL, Wis. - Area law enforcement officers and the Hurley Fire Department responded to the scene of a 10 p.m. Friday personal injury accident on U.S. 2, near the Corkscrew liquor store, east of County D.
