IRONWOOD — The Ironwood City Commission took no action Monday on a request to fund construction of a viewing deck on Mt. Zion. The city’s parks and recreation committee had supported city funding for the deck, according to Community Development Director Michael Brown. WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield City Council discussed the latest update with the Gogebic Range Solid Waste Management Authority Monday night. A meeting was held with the authority Thursday, in which it reduced the rate for all customers from $120 to $108 per ton. The new rate will be for a two-month trial period beginning Saturday. IRONWOOD — In a special meeting Monday, the Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education approved hiring Col. Sandra Keefer as the district’s senior army instructor for the district’s JROTC program. BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners approved a Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant Wednesday. IRONWOOD - A semi-truck driver knocked down utility lines on Houk Street on Tuesday afternoon. According to an Xcel Energy employee on the scene, a semi truck driver traveling on the street was too tall and snagged the wires, causing two poles to break. Wires ended up on the ground. IRONWOOD — Many of the 118 people who donated to Ironwood's new Art Park attended the Friday afternoon ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Aurora Street. Jen Tucker, a community assistance specialist with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, presented Ironwood Community Development Director Michael Brown with a plaque on the occasion.
