IRONWOOD — City Manager Scott Erickson on Monday updated the city commission on numerous upcoming projects and clean-up days. Erickson said bids for the Art Park on Aurora Street came in high and options are under review by city staff. HURLEY - The smell of meat on the grill wafted through the parking lot of the Iron County Memorial Building on Saturday as the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 529 held its 25th annual steak dinner. BESSEMER—The normally scheduled Monday night Bessemer City Council meeting was moved to Thursday night this week. Gogebic County Sheriff Pete Matonich spoke to the council about approving his proposed 3-year police contract that included Wakefield. Bessemer and Wakefield have been sharing services with the sheriff’s department since 2007. BESSEMER - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners tabled a request Wednesday by the 911 Committee to increase the monthly surcharge on phone lines. Emergency Services Director Jim Loeper presented the committee's request of increasing the monthly surcharge from $1 to $1.30. Loeper said the money is needed as the cost of equipment, salaries and insurance continue to increase. HURLEY — Hurley K-12 School District administrator Chris Patritto confirmed Wednesday that the school board has taken no action pertaining to high school principal Jeff Gulan. IRONWOOD - The colder temperatures that replaced last week's warm weather can be expected to remain for the next several days, according the National Weather Service office in Marquette, although temperatures are expected to slowly rise to a high of 52 degrees on Tuesday. ONTONAGON — The Ontonagon County board Tuesday said goodbye to long time treasurer Dee Killoran Tuesday. Killoran has worked for the county for 44 years and nine months, 32 of those years were as County Treasurer. Killoran is retiring at the end of the month. BESSEMER — The Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team arrested a 30-year-old male in Bessemer on Friday evening at 11:45 on multiple warrants and local charges.
