BESSEMER - Christmas is coming and so is the annual Gogebic Range Christmas Bird Count. This year's bird survey from Wakefield to Iron County, Wis., is set for next Saturday, Dec. 20, according to organizer Jerry Edde, of Bessemer. HURLEY - The Iron County Finance Committee Thursday approved moving forward with aerial imaging of the county in 2015. Zoning administrator Tom Bergman discussed imaging, saying it is part of a consortium effort in northern Wisconsin. The plan is a for a plane to fly over using orthophotography, which uses lasers to measure the exact contours of the surface below. BESSEMER - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners on a 5-1 vote approved a letter of "strong" support Wednesday for plans to develop a convention center-casino at Indianhead Mountain in Wakefield. The action came after a motion from commissioner George Peterson, of Watersmeet. The lone dissenting vote was from Joe Bonovetz, of Bessemer, who said he would like to see a copy of the letter of support before voting on it. IRONWOOD - Forty local girls learned about Women in Welding on Tuesday and Wednesday through the career and technical education program through the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District. EWEN – Family and friends of Ewen-Trout Creek's junior high and high school students gathered for the annual Christmas concert on Wednesday night. HURLEY - Hundreds of toys were dropped off at the Iron County Human Services Department on Tuesday afternoon, as part of the annual Christmas for Kids toy drive in Iron County. The drive is hosted by the Iron County Fire Association, and allows people to bring donations to their local fire halls. IRONWOOD - Nearly 1,000 local children from Iron, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties attended performances of "Once Upon A Wolf" at the Historic Ironwood Theatre on Tuesday. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The Ironwood Township Board of Trustees discussed a letter sent to local residents regarding fundraising for the Ironwood Carnegie Library during a meeting Monday. IRONWOOD - After three performances in four days, "A Claudette Christmas Card" has wrapped for the holiday season. BRUCE CROSSING - Many gathered for the 25th annual "Christmas at the Crossing" Children's Christmas Party held on Saturday. IRONWOOD - As Jack Frost parades go, the weather was downright balmy for Friday's annual winter celebration in Ironwood.
