BESSEMER - Andy Tingstad has seen many changes in both the court system and the community in his 32 years as District Judge for Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties. He retired effective Thursday at noon. IRONWOOD - Visitors at ABR Trails and Wolverine Ski Trails skied and snowshoed into the new year with sunshine and milder temperatures on Thursday. ABR owner Eric Anderson said that the visitors were "really happy with conditions." Local skier, Sandy Pera, of Wakefield agreed. "I come here often," said Pera, who holds a season pass. IRONWOOD - The Deep Freeze of last winter will continue to affect Gogebic Range communities for years to come. The coldest winter on record in Ironwood drove the frost deep and ruptured pipes and watermains, creating an estimated $3 million damage in Gogebic County. WATERSMEET - The Ironwood Public Safety Department hazardous materials team broke in equipment for the first time on Wednesday during a semi tractor and trailer accident on U.S. 2 in Watersmeet. WATERSMEET - Deputies responded to a semi tractor-trailer accident on Wednesday at 6:20 a.m. and U.S. 2 remained closed through around 5 p.m. The accident occurred near mile marker 59, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department.
