    HURLEY - After two failed motions to postpone action, the Iron County Board of Supervisors voted 8-7 to approve the proposed amendments to mining company Gogebic Taconite's lease option for its proposed mine site near Upson.     IRONWOOD - The Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees met on Tuesday night to a approve Copper Country Campus expansion plans. Chairman John Lupino said the board had quite a bit of discussion on the expansion plans prior to the board meeting. The new plan features a front entrance in the Copper Country Mall, as well as three classrooms and many offices. One of the large classrooms can also be divided into two smaller rooms as needed.     HURLEY - It was Laskiainen on Sunday, the Finnish mid-winter sliding festival at Little Finland. A custom in Finland, the sliding festival typically starts seven weeks before Lent and is filled with winter activities and food.     EWEN - The Ewen-Trout Creek School music program has enlisted the vocal band, The Cat's Pajamas, to perform at the Ontonagon Theater to raise money for the program.     EWEN - The home of John and Mary Nordine on Cedar Street in Ewen was destroyed in a fire in the early morning hours Thursday. The couple and their three children were able to evacuate the home safely. McMillan Township Supervisor Dan Staff said it was unsure what caused the fire.     IRONWOOD - The elementary school gymnasium at Luther L. Wright was jumping Thursday as students participated in the annual "Jump for a Heart" event. The gymnasium was divided into 10 station, nine of which were based on different form of jumping exercises, such as skipping rope, plyometrics, a "long jump" and a "Lambeau Leap," as well as a number of other jumping activities.     SAXON, Wis. - The Iron County Sheriff's Department was investigating a Wednesday morning fire that destroyed the former Jack Steinmetz residence on Carlson Road in Saxon. A deputy said the fire was fully engulfed when the Saxon Fire Department responded around 8:30 a.m. in minus-11 degree temperatures.     Wolverine Ski Trail will be taken over by snowshoers Saturday for the annual YooperBeiner Race/Tour.     IRONWOOD - All household belongings and four pets were lost in a 7:54 p.m. Sunday fire that lit up the neighborhood at 206 Southwest St. A wood stove located in the basement caught on fire, the homeowner, Tracy Sedin, told Ironwood Public Safety Department Director Andrew DiGiorgio.
