WHITE PINE - After nearly six years of planning, fundraising, design, and construction the White Pine American Legion Post 462 has completed it's new memorial to those killed in action. The effort to construct a new monument started because the original monument was crumbling and no longer suitable to honor "our fallen comrades from Carp Lake Township," said Ron Howard of the Ontonagon County Veterans Association. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Gogebic Community College's David G. Lindquist Center is receiving a facelift. During the summer, areas receiving renovations and maintenance work are the student lounge, the Courtside Cafe, formerly known as the Snack Bar, the gymnasium and the hallway. IRONWOOD - Construction of Ironwood's Safe Routes to School project has begun on Curry Street. Ironwood City Manager Scott Erickson said sidewalks will be improved and new sidewalks will be installed in an effort to improve students' safety. IRONWOOD - Enbridge Pipelines conducted hands-on training exercises for employees Tuesday outside Tacconelli's Down Towne restaurant in Ironwood. Scott Paquette, an Enbridge employee who lives in Bessemer, explained it was "confined space entry" training, simulating what might happen when employees respond to a pipeline emergency. BESSEMER — A 32-year-old Ironwood man has been arraigned in Gogebic County District Court on a charge of delivery of heroin, causing death. Martin Henry Brecke, of 114 Flink St., appeared in court in Bessemer, charged in the death of Patrick Mullen, 32, of Iron Belt, Wis., according to the Ironwood Public Safety Department. IRONWOOD - Aspirus Grand View Hospital on Wednesday announced plans for a $16 million, 43,600-square-foot family medicine, cancer and specialty care clinic. Hospital spokesman David Sim said the clinic will be attached to the current hospital, in front of the current clinic, which will stay open until the new facility is constructed. HURLEY - A 58-year-old former Manitowish Waters, Wis., resident was sentenced to 90 days in the Iron County Jail Tuesday for running over a companion with his vehicle. James Heller, 58, of Duluth, Ga., was sentenced to two years in prison and three years of extended supervision by Iron County Judge Patrick Madden, but the prison sentence was then stayed.
