    BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners agreed Wednesday to increase a special 9-1-1 monthly surcharge by 30 cents per telephone or mobile device. The present charge is $1 per phone or device, but county voters authorized charging up to $1.65 in the November election. Gogebic County Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Loeper, who proposed the increase at the last county board meeting, offered a long list of reasons the increase is needed .     IRONWOOD — Downtown Ironwood will revert to the 1950s for a day on Saturday, June 20. Aurora Street will be closed from 2 to 10 p.m. between Lowell and Suffolk for a Historic Ironwood Theatre “Grease” sing-along retro celebration that will also include a Klassic Kruisers antique auto show.     WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield City Council heard updates on the Gogebic Range Solid Waste Management Authority, city blight properties and budget considerations, as well as made a final decision on a contract with the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department at a busy meeting Monday evening in front of a packed room.     HURLEY - The 10th annual Brian Nasi Memorial Heart Run/Walk was held Saturday starting and finishing at the Hurley K-12 School. It was a popular spot for families as young and old participated in the either a 1-mile or 5-kilometer run/walk. All the children under 12 were given a ribbon and other prizes.     Highway projects are gearing up in the Upper Peninsula with the warmer weather. The Michigan Department of Transportation said a mammoth three-part M-28 resurfacing project, including from near Wakefield to Bergland, will begin on Monday and run through July 31. The 23.8 miles of work will be on M-28 from Tula to Bergland, from Ewen to Bruce Crossing, and from Sidnaw to the Houghton County line.   • Iron County tourism spending stagnant

    Iron County lagged behind other northern Wisconsin counties in 2014 in attracting tourism, according to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. State officials said tourism spending of $18.9 million in Iron County in 2013 increased to $19 million in 2014, or .65 percent. That lagged far behind the increases in neighboring counties, however. Oneida County showed the greatest area increase in tourism spending, from $196.9 million in 2013 to $207.5 million, or 5.4 percent.     WAKEFIELD - By a margin of just 58 votes, voters within the boundaries of the Wakefield-Marenisco School District approved the district's request for a 0.6 mill increase to fund the purchase of new school buses for the district. A total of 518 votes were cast on the matter with 288, or 55.6 percent, voting for the increase and 230 voters, or 44.4 percent, voting against the millage.     IRONWOOD — April turned out to be an average month, weather-wise, in Ironwood, but the yearly mean temperature is down. According to figures compiled at the National Weather Service office in Marquette, the average April temperature in Ironwood was 39.8 degrees, compared to the long-term average of 39.3. The highest average on record is 50.3 degrees in 1915, while the lowest was 30.2 in 1907.     IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Despite an apparent change in the timeline suggested by the Gogebic County Road Commission, the Ironwood Township Board of Trustees voted Monday to keep the original road repair schedule that it approved on Feb. 9.
