EWEN - Michigan State Police said a 21-year-old Ewen man was arrested after trying to rob a Ewen homeowner at gunpoint. IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Carnegie Library hosted its first ever donut sale this fall to help fund programs and purchases for the library. People were able to pre-order their donuts, which were made by Rigoni's Bakery, earlier this month, and pick them up Tuesday morning at the library. BESSEMER - Jim Whittinghill, of Eagle Waste & Recycling, gave a presentation Monday night at the Bessemer City Council on a proposal of administering a rewards program for the community members who separate garbage and recycle. HURLEY - For the second time in less than a year, a Hurley nightspot was struck by a major fire on Friday evening. A grease fire started at Freddie's Old-Time Saloon on Silver Street, causing heavy smoke to quickly spread throughout the building while patrons were dining or sipping drinks. SAXON, Wis. - Thirty-five Hurley K-12 School seniors helped clean up the Saxon Harbor park Thursday as part of a service learning project. It is a graduation requirement for the students, and according to Greg Massoglia, a mathematics teacher at the school, the students have been working at Saxon Harbor for the past four years. WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield City Council decided Monday the Sunday Lake spillway may need more extensive repairs than originally thought. Employees from the city's department of public works lowered the level of Sunday Lake in late September and determined the spillway was in need of concrete and rebar reconstruction.
