WATERSMEET - Deputies responded to a semi tractor-trailer accident on Wednesday at 6:20 a.m. and U.S. 2 remained closed through around 5 p.m. The accident occurred near mile marker 59, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department. BESSEMER - The Bessemer School Board at its Monday meeting heard absenteeism is up recently due to illness. Teacher Sherry Nyquist was suppose to make a presentation to the board, but was out sick for the day. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The Ironwood Township Board of Trustees approved a 2015 proposed budget of $913,729 Dec. 8. The fund balance for 2015 is $398,371, down nearly $100,000 from 2014. The millage rate will remain at 4.2714 after residents approved a road millage during the November mid-term election. A millage rate is the amount of tax per $1,000 of property value, the road millage replaced an expiring fire truck millage. The millage is for 1 mill and will last from 2014 to 2018.
