HURLEY - Enough is enough. The Iron County Finance Committee took steps Thursday to prevent tax delinquent properties from showing up year after year. There are around 13 properties in Iron County behind four years on taxes, dating to 2010. Three property owners have began paying, but the remaining 10 parcels may be taken by Iron County. ONTONAGON - For nine years, the Ontonagon Lake Trout Classic has raised funds for worthy groups in the area. For the past several years, the annual bowling tournament, led by Larry and Diane Greig, has raised funds for the Ontonagon County Cancer Association. HIDALGO, Texas (AP) - The first wave of National Guard troops has taken up observation posts along the Texas-Mexico border. Several dozen soldiers deployed in the Rio Grande Valley are part of the up to 1,000 troops called up by Gov. Rick Perry last month, Texas National Guard Master Sgt. WARREN (AP) - The body of a 100-year-old suburban Detroit woman was found in her flooded condominium basement Tuesday, a day after heavy rain swamped much of the area and stranded motorists on water-clogged streets and freeways. The woman's daughter was concerned about her welfare and went to the home to check on her, said Warren Mayor James Fouts. Fouts said the woman appears to have drowned. ONTONAGON - The cause of an early Monday morning fire and explosion in Ontonagon remains under investigation, according to the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police. BESSEMER - Gogebic County's Relay for Life wrapped up Saturday morning with a fundraising pancake breakfast at the Bessemer VFW. With a menu of pancakes, French toast, eggs, baked goods, orange juice and coffee, the Bessemer and Wakefield VFWs helped raise some money for the fight against cancer. SAXON, Wis. - The White Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club held its third annual vintage grass drags at the Iron County Fairgrounds Saturday. HURLEY - The "Show Your Colors" 5-kilometer fun run starting and ending at the Hurley K-12 School Friday raised money for the volleyball team. SAXON, Wis. - Attendance at the 2014 Iron County Fair lsat weekend topped 5,000. According to fair officials, 5,138 wrist bands were issued throughout the weekend, with children 5 and under getting in for free. HURLEY - As of Friday afternoon, 588 people had signed up to take part in today's 46th Paavo Nurmi Marathon.
