HURLEY - Hundreds of all-terrain vehicles will make their way to Iron County this weekend for the 29th annual Memorial Day Weekend ATV Rally. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 70s, with sunshine in the forecast all weekend. IRONWOOD - Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park gave a tour to around 30 graduate students and faculty members from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Culture, History and Environment on Tuesday. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Sixth graders are braving the wilderness this week in the annual Camp Superior experience at Little Girl's Point on Lake Superior. A total of 110 students from the Ironwood, All Saints Catholic Academy, Bessemer and Wakefield-Marensico school districts are making the annual trip to the Extension camp. IRONWOOD - Ironwood's coldest winter in 100 years continued into April, with temperatures for the month nearly 6 degrees below normal. April 2014 in Ironwood enters the weather statistic books as the ninth coldest on record, according to Kevin Crupi, of the National Weather Service office in Marquette. Records date to 1901. HURLEY - The Range Art Association is celebrating 60 years of existence with local artists gearing up for the annual art show in July. The association started with a group of local artists wanting to collaborate. IRONWOOD - Normal traffic patterns will remain on U.S. 2 for another week as delays push the starting reconstruction date back to May 27. Dean Aberly, transportation technician with the Michigan Department of Transportation, said the delay in construction was due partly to weather-related issues and acquiring materials. BESSEMER - Members of the Bessemer City Council approved a five-year contract with Eagle Waste & Recycling, Inc., to handle all of the city's trash and recycling services at their meeting Monday. Eagle Waste & Recycling, Inc., will provide each eligible Bessemer household with a 64-gallon cart for trash and a 96-gallon recycling cart for a combined cost of a little more than $16 per month. IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the city and Michigan Department of Transportation to propose alternate detour routes through the city for the U.S. 2 construction project. KIMBALL, Wis. - Hungry Gogebic Range residents helped fund an all-American cause Sunday at the Outfitters 4 Patriots spaghetti dinner at the Kimball Community Center. About halfway through the six-hour feed, around 200 tickets had been sold, whether in advance or at the door, and 50/50 raffle tickets were selling fast too. IRONWOOD - Fourteen youth attended a free off-road vehicle safety class Saturday through the Western Upper Peninsula Trail Authority. The class, held at Gogebic Community College, covered a variety of topics to keep ORV operators safe. ANN ARBOR (AP) - About 300 people participated in a 5K race Sunday in honor of a slain University of Michigan medical student. The Paul DeWolf Memorial Hero Run took place at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor. DeWolf would have graduated this weekend. BESSEMER - Mark and Jane Bale have three children of their own, but have been foster parents to 45 kids over the years.
