IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - The Ironwood Township Board of Trustees, Monday, discussed an alternative source of funding to help update its ailing roads. Four years ago, the township passed a four-year millage to help pay for a fire truck. The fire truck has since been paid for, allowing the board to drop the 1 mill from the taxes. WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield City Council scheduled a work session to discuss the proposed budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year during its meeting Monday. HURLEY - More than 200 people came to run, walk or stroll the ninth annual Brian Nasi Memorial Heart Run/Walk in Hurley on Saturday. The event was held at the Hurley K-12 School. Many red balloons were purchased in memory of others and were released in the sky prior to the starting of the race. There was also face painting and a clown. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority held a cleanup session Saturday afternoon along Trail 2, a snowmobile/ATV trail in western Gogebic County. Volunteers met in Bessemer early Saturday morning before gathering in Hurley to begin cleaning the trail back into Michigan. Volunteers were headed up by GRTA treasurer Lisa Hetfeld, GRTA secretary Christina Youngberg and ATV club president Ross Kolesar. IRONWOOD - Friends of the Library hosted its annual spring book fair at the Ironwood Memorial Building on Saturday to offer bookworms great deals on used books and raise money for the Ironwood Carnegie Library. IRONWOOD - The general contractor for this summer's Ironwood U.S. 2 reconstruction project said Wednesday work on the detour route will begin around the middle of next week. IRONWOOD - Last month the Ironwood School Board voted to move students from Sleight Elementary to Luther L. Wright School and students, teachers and parents alike are preparing for the transition. The board approved a majority of the students in the district under one building at LLW and students in pre-kindergarten and the alternative school attending Sleight.
