    IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education held a busy meeting Monday night, covering multiple topics. The board approved the retirements of faculty members 1st Sgt. Tim Rang, Camille Lupino, Barb Aspinwall and Bonnie Sanders, and lifted the pink slips from 10 teachers and three community school instructors in the district. Master Sgt. William E.   • Bessemer contracts with Eagle Waste & Recycling Inc.

    BESSEMER - Members of the Bessemer City Council approved a five-year contract with Eagle Waste & Recycling, Inc., to handle all of the city's trash and recycling services at their meeting Monday. Eagle Waste & Recycling, Inc., will provide each eligible Bessemer household with a 64-gallon cart for trash and a 96-gallon recycling cart for a combined cost of a little more than $16 per month.   • Partnership unveils alternative routes for US 2 construction

    IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the city and Michigan Department of Transportation to propose alternate detour routes through the city for the U.S. 2 construction project. Peter Grewe, chamber president, said the alternate routes will work hand-in-hand with the existing detour and direct people through downtown and out to U.S. 2 as well.     KIMBALL, Wis. - Hungry Gogebic Range residents helped fund an all-American cause Sunday at the Outfitters 4 Patriots spaghetti dinner at the Kimball Community Center. About halfway through the six-hour feed, around 200 tickets had been sold, whether in advance or at the door, and 50/50 raffle tickets were selling fast too.     IRONWOOD - Fourteen youth attended a free off-road vehicle safety class Saturday through the Western Upper Peninsula Trail Authority. The class, held at Gogebic Community College, covered a variety of topics to keep ORV operators safe.     ANN ARBOR (AP) - About 300 people participated in a 5K race Sunday in honor of a slain University of Michigan medical student. The Paul DeWolf Memorial Hero Run took place at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor. DeWolf would have graduated this weekend.     Every Tuesday night over the summer, people looking to get outside and get some exercise can hit the roads and pedal the trails with a group of fellow bikers for the Fat Tire Rides.     IRONWOOD — Four Ironwood freshmen competed at the 25th annual Michigan Technological University Bioathlon recently in Houghton, and came home with a second place finish.     IRONWOOD - Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park will host their fifth annual spring clean-up on Saturday. The Miners Memorial Heritage Park is 167 acres of land owned by the city and has been the site of much illegal dumping of tires, appliances and furniture over the years.     PORT HURON (AP) - Sea lampreys look alien, and Jim Frazer had a close encounter of the worst kind with one on Saturday during the Port Huron Spring Fling salmon fishing tournament. "We had one, and I had it stuck to my bicep because my boat mate stuck it to me," Frazer, captain of the Double Down, told the Times Herald of Port Huron. "It was small, about 5 to 6 inches long."   • Downtown Development Authority to dedicate Ethnic Commons park June 4

    BESSEMER - Members of the Bessemer Downtown Development Authority heard an update about the Ethnic Commons project and agreed to partner with the city and fund one of three seasonal employees. City Manager Mike Uskiewicz said the city was going to hire two seasonal workers and asked the DDA if they would fund the third position, which would perform mowing, trash pickup and other duties specifically in the downtown area.     BESSEMER — Members of the Bessemer City Planning Commission discussed how the city can make use of its land by creating new recreational trails and selling some for commercial development during its meeting on Wednesday.
