  • Divers pull 3rd Minnesotta student from Chicago River

    CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police divers have pulled the body of a female University of Minnesota student from the icy Chicago River after an accident that left another student dead and a third injured. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the woman pulled from the river Wednesday as 21-year-old Lauren Li of Burnsville, Minn.   • Hurley scores Exxon Mobile education grant

    HURLEY - The Hurley School District received grant funding from Exxon Mobil, Tuesday. According to Ray Kallas, of Ray's Mobil in Hurley, each Mobil station across the country is given an application from Exxon's Education Alliance to nominate its local school for the grant funding. Each selected school receives funding towards math and science programs. (AP) - A snow-covered Earth and the morning sun rising over the Grandville horizon are among thousands of snapshots captured by a school robotics team balloon that soared to record-setting heights recently. The Grandville RoboDawgs' first winter balloon launch reached an estimated altitude of 130,000 feet, or about 25 miles, according to coaches Mike Evele and Doug Hepfer. (AP) - A 12-year-old New Mexico boy drew a shotgun from a band-instrument case and shot and wounded two classmates at his middle school Tuesday morning before a teacher talked him into dropping the weapon and he was taken into custody, officials and witnesses said.     IRONWOOD - Monday marked the first day of the spring semester for Gogebic Community College students. Spring enrollment numbers are still fluctuating as students can add and drop courses for the first week, according to officials.     IRONWOOD - Fans from far and wide gathered in the grandstands at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds for the Pro-series U.S. Snowmobile Association races Saturday and Sunday. Among the crowd was Ron Fjerstad, father to one of the racers, Joey Fjerstad, 24, of Minneapolis. Joey Fjerstad has been racing since 2004, working his way up from stock class to championship class.     WAKEFIELD – Twenty-nine people competed in the SISU snowshoe race at the Milje's Ski Trails Saturday morning. A 5k race and 10k race were available. "This has been an amazing event," said one of the trail owners, Carrie Miljevich, "We had a great turnout." Corey Stivve of Ashland heard about the race from a co-worker.     EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - The state Department of Health Services is trying a one-year pilot program involving a narcotic antidote in an effort to prevent overdose deaths.
