  • Santa visits Gurney

    Katie Perttunen|Dec 2, 2013

GURNEY- Santa came early this year to Gurney. Santa's arrival was announced not by jingle bells, but by the sound of the fire siren, and the kids got in line to tell him their dearest wishes and answer the question, "have you been naughty or nice?" Santa visited with about 30 children and their families at the Gurney Community Center on Saturday. He arrived in a Saxon-Gurney fire truck, and brought sacks full of toys for the good girls and boys. Santa, of course, knew exactly what each child...

About 15,000 people waited for the flagship Macy's in New York to open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Long checkout lines formed at the Target in Colma, Calif., on Friday morning. And by the time Jessica Astalos was leaving North Point Mall in Alpharetta, Ga., afte...

    Nov 25, 2013

TRAVERSE CITY (AP) - Five months after divers searched a remote section of Lake Michigan for a mysterious 17th century ship and retrieved a wooden slab the group leader believes is part of the vessel, it's still uncertain whether they are on the right track. The object of the weeklong mission in June was the Griffin, built by the legendary French explorer La Salle, which disappeared in 1679 with its six-member crew, becoming the oldest known shipwreck in the upper Great Lakes. The dive team dug...
