IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Ironwood Township will be home to a new farmers, flea and craft market starting Aug. 6 at the Airport Recreation Park. According to township board trustee Kathy Maki, the event was originally set to begin at the end of July, but had to be moved back until August. HURLEY — Turnout for the Apostolic Lutheran Church of America was great as they held their 105th annual Convention at the Hurley K-12 school. Alan Estola, Chairman of the convention, estimated 1,200 people showed up for the event, some from as far away as Finland, Sweden and Guatemala. “We had approximately 250 people come for the service held in Finnish. IRONWOOD — The city of Ironwood Planning Commission approved a request for proposals from planning consultants to initiate a new 20-year plan for the city, and will next get the request approved by the city commission, said community development director Michael Brown. Ironwood’s last 20-year plan was written in 1982, with updates in 2000, said Brown. The landscape and economy have changed since then, Brown said. BESSEMER — A single engine airplane was forced to make an emergency landing on U.S. 2 near Blackjack Road in Bessemer Township at 4:45 a.m., Thursday, according to a Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department release.
