Scott Erickson is the new supervisor from the towns of Oma and Carey Erickson replaces Dennis DeRosso, of Oma, who died on April 1. IRONWOOD — The 9.3 inches of wet snow that fell Monday night and early Tuesday on Ironwood pushed April’s total to a record in a winter that won’t end. The snowfall that was recorded to 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant brought the month’s total to 44 inches, eclipsing the previous 100-year April mark of 43 inches set in 1928. BESSEMER — Jurors heard testimony from a former cell mate of Kenneth Peters who spoke about fixing “damning evidence” during 32nd Circuit Court proceedings on Tuesday at the Gogebic County Courthouse in Bessemer. HURLEY — Little Finland hosted a traditional Laskiainen, or ‘sledding day,’ luncheon of pea soup and kropsu on Sunday. Kropsu is a Finnish pancake baked in the oven and served with jellies or syrup. IRONWOOD — The Ironwood-Hurley Boy Scout Troop 323 served pancakes during a breakfast fundraiser Sunday morning at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. About 200 tickets were sold halfway through the fundraiser, which benefits a 10-day trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota at the end of June. IRONWOOD — Blizzard-like conditions dumped more than 17 inches of snow across the Gogebic Range Thursday and Friday and it continued to snow heavily into the night. Winds up to 40 mph whipped around the snow and created white-outs, making driving nearly impossible. BESSEMER — Flood season preparations are under way in Gogebic and Iron counties. According to Iron County Emergency Management Director Stacy Ofstad, roughly 10,000 sand bags have been purchased this year, with about 17,500 bags available in case of flooding emergencies.
