    BESSEMER — Kenneth Wayne Peters, 50, of Bessemer, was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing his wife, 79-year-old Ethel Grzena-Peters, in August. Peters was found guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree vulnerable adult abuse on May 1 by a jury following a lengthy trial.     GORDON, Wis. — Wildfire crews from the Department of Natural Resources worked through Tuesday night, joined by more than 100 municipal firefighters, in surrounding a wildfire that scorched 8,700 acres in Douglas and Bayfield counties.     IRONWOOD — “The only time I missed donating was when I had my knee surgery. Each pint of blood saves three lives,” said blood donor Jean Yurchak at Wednesday’s blood drive at the Ironwood Memorial Building. Eighty-two pints of blood were collected, said volunteer Dick Armstrong, which is slightly down from an average of 90 pints of blood.     HURLEY — The Fat Tire Bicycle group met Tuesday night behind the Iron Nugget to enjoy its second night of riding this season in 80-degree temperatures. Group members have been riding together for more than 20 years, said rider Chet Kanipes. Tuesday night events are usually between eight and 12 miles of off-road riding, and Wednesday nights feature road riding of up to 25 miles. Dalbeck is seeking rezoning from residential-1 to residential-3 for land at 207 Bonnie Road to allow for construction of a shop/barn to work on logging equipment and house a few horses.
