WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield-Marenisco girls track and field team put on a strong performance and out-distanced the Bessemer Speedgirls 102-78 in the final Porcupine Mountain Conference track meet at Cardinal Field in Wakefield. SOLON SPRINGS, Wis. — Hurley moved into a first-place tie with Solon Springs after beating the Eagles 10-6 Monday night. This is the first of two meetings between the teams this week with the second coming Thursday at Hurley. ASHLAND, Wis. - Hurley freshman Aiyana Nickel set a school record in the triple jump at Thursday's Welker Invitational. HURLEY - A frustrating day of golf ended well for Hurley's Jeff Tenlen. Tenlen's 84 put him in a tie for the best score at Tuesday's Northern Wisconsin Golf Conference meet at Eagle Bluff. Hurley's Jake Tenlen still managed to shoot a 40 on the front nine at Eagle Bluff and be medalist by eight strokes at Monday's Hurley Invitational. HURLEY - Hurley scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come back and beat Northland Pines 5-3 Friday evening. IRONWOOD — The second annual Kiwanis Classic Border Bash high school boys and girls all-star basketball games include eight local players and several regional athletes locals will recognize. The games pitting Upper Peninsula athletes against Northern Wisconsin players is set for June 9 at the Lindquist Center at Gogebic Community College. STRATFORD, Wis. — The Hurley Midgettes split in Saturday's softball tournament, beating Iola-Scandinavia 8-7 and losing to Athens 3-0. It was the first time this season that Hurley lost or allowed a run after outscoring its first four opponents 45-0.
