HURLEY - Junior James Sukanen made school history on a nostalgic night in Hurley. Sukanen became the eighth Hurley boy to score 1,000 career points as Hurley beat Butternut 62-24 Friday night. That came after Hurley honored the 1949 state champion boys basketball team. Sukanen led all scorers with 19 points and stands at 1,004 for his career. WAKEFIELD - There's a first time for everything. On Friday night on their home court, the Wakefield-Marenisco girl's basketball team became co-champions of the Indianhead Conference East Division with Hurley with a 58-28 victory over Ironwood. HURLEY - Hurley has a week off before the postseason starts, but Thursday night's game may have been good enough to keep the momentum going that long. After trailing much of the evening, Hurley capped off a whirlwind 21.6 seconds - and the regular season - with a 38-35 victory over Ashland. IRONWOOD --- The Samsons hope they haven't seen the last of the Lindquist Center this season. Gogebic Community College defeated Fox Valley Tech 77-65 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Samsons finished .500 at home, 6-6.
