Cole Stevens picked up Ironwood’s other U.P. championship, with a 12-0 mark in the pole vault. “She’s not very tall, but she’s got great spr...

  • Devils bitten by inexperience, drop MHSAA Tournament opener

    Pat Krause|Jun 1, 2013

NORWAY, Mich. — Baseball coaches like to say that teams that play solid defense and pitch well (with few walks) are likely to come out on the winning end of ball games. On Friday afternoon in Norway, Stephenson used that simple formula to down Ironwood 8-1 in the opening round Division IV District Tournament. "It was a real good team effort," Stephenson manager Dan Koller said. "We played a clean game and the defense did its job (no errors). If you make the plays on defense, you've got a good s...

Saari is competing in the 300-meter state preliminary hurdles race at La Crosse today at around noon. He's seeded 16th with eight runners advancing to Saturday's final. Saari was seeded eighth at sectionals and finished fourth to take the last qualifying spot last week. "He knew it had...

Twelve walks and multiple errors compounded Hurley’s offensive struggles. Eight of the 11 Screaming Eagle runs scored on walks, errors and wild pitch...

  • Chequamegon rallies past Hurley for regional title

    Jason Juno|May 24, 2013

PARK FALLS, Wis. — The defense is usually the least of Hurley's worries. The bats and pitching were there, but Chequamegon took advantage of six Midgette errors to win a WIAA Division 3 regional title with an exciting 6-5 win over young Hurley Tuesday.
