Dennis K. 'Dbl D' DeRosso

MINOCQUA, Wis. — Dennis K. “Dbl D” DeRosso, 78, of Oma, died peacefully Monday, April 1, 2013, at Avanti Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minocqua, with his family by his side.

He was born Oct. 31, 1934, in Hurley, son of the late Geno and Mae (Brown) DeRosso, attended St. Mary’s Grade School, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1952. He then held numerous jobs in the area until he went to Greenland to assist in building radar towers for the U.S. Government. Returning to Hurley, he held numerous positions within the county until he went to work for the Iron County Forestry Department, retiring as County Forester. In his retirement, Dennis owned and operated Pine Lake Logging for 20 years, leaving the logging business to pursue his next career in politics.

He was current chairman of the Iron County Board of Supervisors and served as County Administrator, and was also chairman of the town of Oma. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1396 of Ironwood, Mich., Pere Menard Assembly No. 471, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Hurley Lions Club, member and past president of the Mercer Lions Club, and served a term as District Governor of Lions International. Dennis enjoyed hunting in Montana and especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and anyone else who would stop by.

On Sept. 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Irene C. Morgando at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pence. She survives.

Also surviving are six children, Barry (Karyn) DeRosso, Hurley, Candy (Tom) Thompson, Mercer, Gina (Jeff) Pickhardt, Pleasant Prairie, and Mickey (Julie), Paul (Lori), and Scott (Jyl) DeRosso, all of Ironwood; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Aijala, Ironwood, and Bonnie (Jerry) Gulan, Milwaukee; brother-in-law, Bill (Pat) Morgando, Pence; sisters-in-law, Florence Gulan, Kimball, Louise Morgando, Hurley, and Loretta (Lawrence) Laguna, Pence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Out of respect for Dennis’ wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 5, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow at the Liberty Bell Chalet in downtown Hurley.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hurley, later this spring.

Members of Pere Menard Assembly No. 471, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, will serve as honor guard at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to St. Mary’s Church, 404 Iron St., Hurley WI 54534, for the bell tower project.
