Stanley V. Lantta

SAXON, Wis. — Stanley V. Lantta, of Saxon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the age of 90.

Stanley was born on Jan. 6, 1923, in Iron Belt, the son of Matt and Lydia Lantta.

He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II on board the Destroyer Escort DE 815.

On Jan. 17, 1942, Stanley married Vivian M. Tapanila, of Saxon.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945, Stanley and Vivian resided in Saxon, where they farmed. He worked at the Montreal mine as an electrician from 1948 until 1961, when the mine closed.

He worked one year in Seattle in the shipyards, then returned to Wisconsin, where he finished his working career at General Motors as a maintenance electrician from 1963 through 1985, when he retired and moved back home to Saxon.

Stanley is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian; and their four children, Dan (Pat), of Fort Atkinson, John, of Janesville, Jean (Tom) Reynolds, of Madison, and Jim (Barb), of Janesville; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters; one brother; and his daughter-in-law, Lu Ann (John) Lantta.

A private memorial service for family and friends is planned for June.

Memorials may be sent to the Saxon-Gurney Community Presbyterian Church or Community Christian Church formerly of Hurley in care of Ketola-Burla Funeral Home.
