Bonna Lee Champion

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Bonna Lee Champion, 84, of Ironwood, died Monday, April 8, 2013, in Ironwood.

She was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Oberg) Kopnick. Bonna attended Ironwood schools, graduating from the Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1947. She resided in Ironwood most of her life.

Bonna had been employed as an accountant for Sears for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood.

On July 2, 1949, she was united in marriage with George C. Champion in Kenosha, Wis. He survives.

Bonna is also survived by one son, Gary (Mary Lynn) Champion, of Ironwood; one daughter, Georgia (Jim) Piilola, of Hurley; two grandchildren, Danielle Prezkop, of Hurley, and Jesse (Jessie) Piilola, of Ironwood; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Cole, Brooke, Mathew and Melissa; one brother, Joseph (Mary Lou) Kopnick, of Glidden, Wis .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bonna was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Verraux, Joleen McGrath and Charlotte Wiltzius.

Cremation will take place at the Range Crematory in Hurley.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Range Funeral Service and Crematory, Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home.
