Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
ONTONAGON — More than a quarter of a ton of weight was lost by competitors in the seventh annual Aspirus Ontonagon Fitness Center Meltdown in Ontonagon.
The three-month contest saw two-person teams competing for the largest percentage of weight loss.
The top team award was garnered by Joe and Linda Haas. They lost 58.5 pounds, or 23.6 percent of their body weight. Coming in second with a loss of 60.5 pounds or 21.6 percent of body weight was the team of Todd Penegor and Erik Hartzell. Coming in third were Melissa and Brenda Masucci with 32 pounds and 15.9 percent, followed by Margaret Poisson and Sue Neider at 25 pounds and 14.7 percent.
The man with the most loss was Joe Haas at 42 pounds, 13.6 percent. Melissa Masucci was the woman with the most loss at 26 pounds and 13.2 percent.
The most dedicated contestants as determined by fitness center manager Kelly Roehm were Candice Graff and Connie Myhren.
Each team chose a special name and Roehm selected the two team names she found most interesting: 50 Shades of Weigh with Val Lind and Jeanne Pollard and Sooz-2-Looz with Sue Preiss and Sue Austin.
Roehm commended all the contestants but pointed to Joe and Linda Haas as not only the winners, but dedicated themselves to a “whole new lifestyle” of exercise and eating.
