Marguerite F. Hansen

BESSEMER, Mich. — Marguerite F. Hansen, 91, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, entered eternal life on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1922, in Bessemer, the daughter of John William and Sophie Henrietta Johnson.  Marguerite graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1939.

On May 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to William A. “Bucky” Hansen at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer.

Marguerite was a faithful member of Sharon Lutheran Church.  She taught Sunday school, was a member of the Women’s group, served on the Social Ministry and volunteered many hours helping others.

Marguerite and Bill enjoyed countless hours of Polka music and loved to dance.  They especially enjoyed Mike Rydeski and his band.   

Marguerite is survived by a daughter, Polly (Merle) Jacobson, Bessemer; her son-in-law, James Matonich, Bessemer; three grandchildren, Mark (Dawn) Jacobson, Rhinelander, Wis., Daniel (Stacy) Matonich, Bloomington, Minn., and Meri Lee (Jason Moberg) Matonich, Superior, Wis .; three great-granddaughters, Kristina Marguerite Jacobson, Alamea Matonich and Lillian Rose Matonich; a sister, Marilyn (Donald) Skwor, Memphis, Tenn .; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, William “Bucky,” on Sept. 21, 2006; a daughter, Barbara Joy Matonich, on Oct. 21, 2011; a brother, John W. Johnson II; a sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Jack Reardon; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean (Eugene) Dahlin; and a nephew, John “Jack” Reardon.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Francis J. Strong officiating.

Pallbearers will be Merle Jacobson, Mark Jacobson, James Matonich, Daniel Matonich, James Dahlin and Brandon Makela.

A reception will be held in the Kastman Hall of Sharon Lutheran Church following the service.

Burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, later this spring.
