Tim Mesun masters two keyboards during his third benefit concert for HOPE Animal Shelter in Ironwood Saturday at Theatre North. The concert raised $330. This was Mesun’s 12th career benefit performance.
IRONWOOD — Tim Mesun played his third benefit for HOPE Animal Shelter at Theatre North Saturday evening. It was the 12th benefit he has played in his career.
He was joined on stage by Matt Agee in a special performance by “La Fratelli Azzuri,” or “The Blues Brothers,” in English.
“I really enjoy jazz and blues, and I am performing five new songs tonight,” Mesun said. His last benefit for HOPE raised $400. His new songs included, “Destination,” and “Canto di Ringraziamento,” which he dedicated to everyone who has helped him over the years. “This is my gift to you,” Mesun said.
“Okefenokee Stomp,” “Zap it” and “Enough about That,” were his other original numbers.
“Tim’s been playing benefits since he was twelve, although he’s been playing since he was four,” said Theatre North board member Mary Hanson. “It’s intriguing to watch him play.”
Mesun plays one keyboard with one hand, one with the other, and includes a harmonica on some numbers. Mesun uses no sheet music.
“I’m in awe of Tim’s talent,” said HOPE director Randy Kirchhoff.
The concert raised $330 for HOPE, Ironwood’s 20-year-old no-kill shelter. Currently the shelter is home to over 30 cats and 12 dogs. The shelter’s next fundraiser is the third annual Hound Dog Hike, in cooperation with Camp K-Nine, on June 22, Kirchoff said.
