IRONWOOD — The Friends of the Carnegie Library will open their book sale to the general public this morning at 7:30 at the Memorial Building.
“The book sales are twice a year, and it takes year-round organizing,” said Friends board member Carol Erickson. “The books are all donated from people in the community.”
The book sale started Friday, but was open just for members of the Friends of the Carnegie Library.
Money raised from the sale has gone to replace library computers, fix the air conditioning and clock, and also funds the summer programming at the library.
In May and October, each sale usually raises around $2,000. “The community has been wonderful in showing support,” said Erickson.
In conjunction with the book sale, a membership drive for the Friends of the Carnegie Library is also running. At last count, membership was at 125, said Friends board member Valerie Fredricskon.
“Ironwood's ROTC students move the books for us. Their help is invaluable,” said Friends board member Kris Maney. The crew moved 280 boxes full of books from storage at the library to the Memorial Building for the sale.
The sale lasts until 2 p.m. today.
