Lynn A. 'Buck' Starkey Sr.

WAUSAU, Wis. — Lynn A. “Buck” Starkey Sr., 79, a former Ironwood, Mich., resident, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Wausau Manor in Wausau.

He was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Charles City, Iowa, son of the late Harold and Iva (Short) Starkey, and attended Charles City schools. He farmed, worked in construction and in bridge building, and was employed at a trucking company. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1952, proudly serving his country in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1955.

Following his discharge, Lynn moved to Ironwood and was employed at White Pine Copper Co. from 1955 until becoming disabled in 1974. He was a former member of Bethany Covenant Church in Ironwood and Ironwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1823. He enjoyed playing the guitar and, at one time, was active in Ironwood Little League Baseball.

On Oct. 24, 1953, he married Bettie Johnson in Charles City. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1986.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Gary) Kmiecik, Wausau; three sons, Lynn Jr. “Bud,” Hurley, Tim, Wausau, and Randy (Marcella), Ironwood; five grandchildren, Lynn (Jen) Starkey, Montreal, Betsy (John) Lang, Wausau, Kasey (Gus) Garcia, Beaver Dam, and Samantha Starkey and Kate Kreager, both of Wausau; five great-grandchildren, Cody and Alyssa Starkey, Mitchell and Sharee Lang and Aiden Garcia; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Lynn was preceded in death by a son, Kevin; brothers, Harold, Robert, Wayne, Donald and Theodore; and a sister, Margaret.

Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 23, at 3 p.m., preceded by visitation at 2 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St. in Ironwood, with the Rev. Jean B. Rencontre officiating.

Full military honors will follow, accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard and Gogebic-Iron Marine Detachment, Marine Corps League.
