Barthel selected as Ojibway Correctional Facility's Officer of the Year for 2013

MARENISCO — Michigan Department of Corrections officer Bruce Barthel has been selected as the Ojibway Correctional Facility’s Officer of the Year for 2013.

Barthel began his career with the Michigan DOC in 2006, and was recognized for his “exemplary professionalism and attention to detail.”

As a corrections officer he also “understands the importance of leading by example and maintaining a positive attitude throughout his duties,” said Linda Tribley, warden of the Marenisco facility.

Barthel is a seven-year veteran of the Army, serving from 1988-1995 as a terrain analyst and intelligence analyst during the 1989-90 Panama Just Cause campaign and 1990-1991 Desert Storm in Iraq.

He resides in Ironwood with his wife and daughter and has been involved as a volunteer with the Ice Crystals Figure Skating Club and Gogebic Range 4H for several years.
