MADISON, Wis. — Mary Ann Johnson, 64, of Ironwood, Mich., died unexpectedly Saturday, June 29, 2013, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, after suffering a brain aneurysm at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood on Thursday, June 27.
She was born Oct. 28, 1948, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Zane and Jean (Coleman) Thiede, attended Southside School in Hurley, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1966. She then attended cosmetology school in Appleton and worked as a cosmetologist for a short time. She was currently employed as a ward clerk at Aspirus Grand View Hospital.
Mary Ann enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
She married James R. Johnson in 1969 in Ironwood. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Surviving are two sons, Brian, Ashland, and Eric, San Diego; a daughter, Jan Johnson, Oshkosh; three grandchildren, Brent Schulze and Zoey Johnson-Gray, both of Oshkosh, and Steven Schulze, Kunsan AFB, Korea; a brother, Richard (Vicky) Thiede, Ramsay, Mich .; sister, Sandy (Randy) Joly, Phoenix; numerous nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, David Johnson, Ironwood, and Joe (Elizabeth) Johnson, Menominee, Mich.
Besides her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Daniel Johnson; and most recently by her brother, James Thiede, on Thursday, June 27.
Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
