BROOKFIELD, Wis. — Caryl Elizabeth (Erickson) James, of Brookfield, was born to eternal life Saturday, June 29, 2013.
She started her life on earth Sept. 16, 1929, born to Clarence and Caroline Erickson (Treloar) in Milwaukee, and grew up in Ironwood and Hancock, Mich.
Caryl was preceded in death by her husband, Willard “Bill” James, WOKY Radio newscaster, in 1973; and her sister, Greta.
She was the beloved mother of William “Bill” (Cathy) James and Elizabeth “Beth” (Gerald) Hinckley; and cherished grandmother of Stephanie, Lauren, Aaron, Nicholas, Max, Nathan and Samantha. They thank Grandma for so many fun times and trips. Caryl was the beloved aunt to Chuck (Sandy) Melcher, and great-aunt to Shane and Brian. She will be fondly remembered by Sharon James.
Caryl also was a longtime teacher at Underwood School in Wauwatosa, where she made many friendships and cultivated children, her passion. An avid reader, Caryl instilled that love in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed and appreciated the beauty of nature and was a “Pasty Cam” follower. She was a role model to all, exhibiting strength, poise and perseverance through many challenging times in her life.

The family will receive family and friends at Cross of Life Lutheran Church, 20700 W. North Ave., Brookfield, on Monday, July 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with a service to celebrate Caryl’s life at 11 a.m. To honor Caryl, please dress in flowered or colorful attire.
Caryl requested memorials in lieu of flowers to Gift of Adoption Fund and Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc.
