RAMSAY, Mich. — Danny “Dinger” Leuzzo, 65, of Verona Avenue, Ramsay, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at home with his family by his side.
He was born April 10, 1948, in Wakefield, son of the late Alphonse Sr. and Julia (Giackino) Leuzzo. Danny attended Ramsay schools and graduated from the A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer with the class of 1966.
From Aug. 29, 1966, until May 28, 1970, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Dumato. Danny was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed locally at the Bessemer Plywood Plant and Midwest Timber in Mercer, Wis. He owned and operated Dan Leuzzo Trucking until retirement.
Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing for muskies, playing softball, cars and making firewood. He especially enjoyed walking his property with his dog Taffy.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy. They were together for 32 years and married on Oct. 10, 2012, in Bessemer.
Surviving are their sons, Tony (Becky) Leuzzo, of Eau Clare, Wis., and Cory Leuzzo, of Ramsay. Also surviving are sons, Shawn (Tara) Leuzzo, of Minneapolis, and Ryan (Erin) Leuzzo, of Marquette, and their mother, Doris Otto, of Ironwood. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tanner, Ella, Damian, Halle, Joslyn and Scarlett. A brother, Alphonse Jr. (Shirley) Leuzzo, of Bessemer, survives.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at the Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home, 304 S. Sophie St., Bessemer, on Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m., with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 27 and the VFW Post 3673 combined Honor Guard of Bessemer.
Danny’s family will receive relatives and friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.
