WAKEFIELD, Mich. – John W. Carroll, 61, of Eau Claire, Wis., passed away suddenly of natural causes on Friday, July 5, 2013, at his childhood home in Wakefield.
He was born on March 29, 1952, in Menominee, the son of William and Rauha (Maki) Carroll. John moved to Wakefield as a young child and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1970. He continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree from Northland College in Ashland, Wis., in 1974.
John then moved to Eau Claire, at which time he opened and ran the Carroll’s Pasty and Ice Cream Place. There John met his future wife, Evelyn Schewe, whom he married on July 15, 1988.
After the closure of the business in 1989, he and Evelyn started a career in insurance sales. Together they worked in the insurance business until his untimely passing.
John is survived by his wife, Evelyn, Eau Claire; three stepchildren, Ken Schewe, Kathy (Troy) Peloquin and Kristopher Schewe; four stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-granddaughter; a sister, Susanna Carroll; five sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Ruth Maurer.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at First Church of the Nazarene, 7th and Vine streets, Eau Claire, with the Rev. Bill Boeselager officiating.
Private interment will be in Wakefield.
