HOPKINS, Minn. — John “Jack” Ryan Trier, 80, formerly of Hurley, Wis., passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, in Hopkins.
He was born June 5, 1933, in Winegar, Wis., to parents Celestin “Lefty” and Margaret “Peg” (Ryan) Trier. He graduated from Hurley schools in 1951. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, where he studied baking and cake decorating.
Being a Master Baker and cake decorator was his passion, which he pursued for 43 years in Minnesota and Massachusetts. In the 1970s, he owned and operated Tryour Bakery in Bloomington, before moving to Boston, where he continued his passion.
Jack loved to travel and visited many states and Mexico.
Jack served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve for eight years during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1959.
Jack is survived by three children, daughters Debi Trier-Dums and Pamela Trier-Hudgins, both of Tennessee, and son, Peter (Yuezchi), of Hopkins; six grandchildren, Ryan and Michelle Dums, of Tennessee, Toni Dums, of Houghton, Mich., David Nikita Hudgins, of Kentucky, Paige Terrell, of Tennessee, and Huiwen Yuang, of Hopkins; five sisters, Mary Lou Semo, of Ironwood, Patricia “Tish” (Henry) Leinon, of Hurley, Jean (Tom) Pavlovich, of Flint, Mich., Molly Backlund, of Newark, Ohio, and Susie Caruso, of Milwaukee; a special former daughter-in-law, Rita Grabowski, of Hopkins; two former sons-in-law; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his former wife and mother of his children, Patricia (Wolz), formerly of Ironwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Frances “Red,” James, Timothy, Joe and Michael; a sister, Margaret “Torchy” Ramuta; his wife, Mary (Castiello), of Boston; four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law; an infant son; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Golden Age Living Center, Park Nicollet Medical Center, St. Therese Adult Care and Methodist Hospital, all of Hopkins, for his care the last five years. Also Rita Grabowski, of Hopkins, for the loving visits and care she gave.
By Jack’s request, there will be no service, cremation will take place and he will be interned at Fort Snelling, Minn., with full military honors.
