WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Mary K. Fastelin, 90, formerly of Ramsay, died Friday, July 26, 2013, in Wakefield.
She was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Palms Location, Bessemer, daughter of the late Benjamin and Maria (Pozzoli) Callovi. Mary attended Bessemer schools and the A.D. Johnston High School. She was employed in Milwaukee before returning to the area. Locally, she and her husband, Eugene, owned and operated Fastelin’s Bar in Ramsay. Mary was also employed by Bessemer Township.
She loved to bake and make raviolis and pasties. She enjoyed bowling in area leagues. Mary especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was call ‘Auntie Mary’ by her many nieces and nephews and others.
She was a life member of the VFW Post 9084 in Wakefield.
On Jan. 29, 1949, she was united in marriage to Eugene J. Fastelin at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2001.
Mary is survived by a son, Dan (Jane) Fastelin, of Hayward, Wis .; grandsons, Tony Fastelin of Hayward, and Matt (Sarah) Fastelin, New Richmond, Wis., and a great-grandson, Eli, of New Richmond.
Many nieces and nephews and relatives also survive.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Robert Francis Fastelin on April 19, 1950; three brothers, Victor, Louis and Ernest; and two sisters, Rose Chernak and Albertina Chiapuzio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield at 11 a.m. Rev. Benjamin Hasse will be the celebrant. Mary’s family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. The VFW Post 9084 Auxiliary Honor Guard will conduct a service of remembrance prior to the Mass. Rite of Committal will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer. A luncheon will follow at the church hall.
Pallbearers will be son, Dan Fastelin; grandsons, Tony Fastelin and Matt Fastelin; and nephew, Jim Callovi.
Range Funeral Service Inc. and the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Bessemer and Ironwood is in charge of arrangements.
